History of Rin Tin Tin
Found in an abondoned German war dog station in the French countryside in September of 1918 with his mother and four siblings, Rinty's family was rescued by Corporal Lee Duncan of the 136th Aero Division, who ended up adopting Rinty. Rin Tin Tin was named after after the small dolls French soldiers used to carry with them for good luck. After the end of World War I, Lee Duncan brought Rin Tin Tin home to the U.S. where he had a very successful career in the movie industry. He was mated to "Nannette" and together they produced Rin Tin Tin, Jr. Rin Tin Tin lived to be 14 years old (he died on August 8, 1932) and is buried in France, the country of his birth. Subsequent films and a television series were portrayed by other German Shepherds, including Rin Tin Tin’s descendents, named Rin Tin Tin, Jr., II, IV, and Hey You. Tasso of Villa Marina (pedigree above) is the sire of Rin Tin Tin II (view pedigree). In 1997, Rin Tin Tin was inducted into the Pedigree Hall of Fame, in the American Kennel Club's Museum of the Dog, St. Louis, Missouri. Rin Tin Tin II, born April 22, 1949, was also owned by Lee Duncan.
